I hear what you’re saying but it is not common practice within magazine pieces to cite statistic sources. That’s done in scientific journals or academic papers but frankly there’s just not space in a magazine feature to cite statistical sources. You can rest assured that whenever we are citing stats or dates and what not, they are fact checked. That is the more typical process that a magazine follows – the practice of double checking any and all facts that appear in print. That is considered best practice in this field generally. I appreciate your comment though and your interest in the story, the issue and the magazine.

I never understood how the withdrawal of an extraordinary amount of groundwater per day, for solely making sure a mine doesn’t flood, didn’t make policymakers at MOE think twice about this proposal. Groundwater is a precious resource itself that we in the Great Lakes region often take for granted.

But I must say that if I had never been informed about this issue, I would have been skeptical about the claims and numbers in this article. If you want to win the trust of readers, you must cite where your numbers and figures are coming from. It is just best practice.

(It was set in the Glen Stewart Ravine neighbourhood.) Back then, her store was on Queen Street East. Over the years, I’ve remained her friend, worked for her and with her on occasion. One constant has been the magic she infuses everything with. It can be found in her straight-up floral work, her urns, her gardening/landscaping, or within the environs of her garden centre. She’s a gem, and I’m glad she’s continued to perform her ‘horticultural prestidigitation’ over the decades; the area is richer because of her presence.

Comment on Sexton Works – Tradition of Quality Contracting Continues by Bob Whalen http://localmagazine.ca/article/sexton-works-tradition-of-quality-contracting-continues/#comment-2663 Mon, 25 Feb 2013 16:02:45 +0000 http://localmagazine.ca/?post_type=article&p=1563#comment-2663 Gerry McSweeney has been our favourite house contractor for close to 30 years. His patient, kindly disposition and his absolute competence as a general contractor has always made his projects run smoothly and predictably.

Gerry worked extensively on our house and cottage, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

We look forward to working with Joe on our next projects, and if Gerry is still helping in a consulting position, all the better.
